About this board game

Fjords is a tile-laying strategy game for 2–4 players, lasting around 45 minutes, in which players explore a stunning landscape before competing to claim its land.

The game unfolds in two distinct phases. First, players lay hexagonal landscape tiles to explore the fjords around them and create a map that serves as the gameboard. This developing landscape provides the foundation for everything that follows.

During the second phase, players begin from the longhouses they placed during the exploration phase. They then walk across the landscape, claiming as much of the plains and cliffs as possible. The winner is the player who has claimed the most land.

Success in Fjords depends on more than simply reacting to the current map. Players must plan ahead while staying ready to act tactically as the landscape takes shape and opportunities change. Every placement helps define the board on which the later competition will take place.

This new edition expands the game to support up to four players and includes five new optional variants or modules designed by Phil Walker-Harding. These additions provide extra variety and flavor while keeping the central two-phase structure at the heart of the experience.

With its combination of landscape exploration, longhouse placement, and territorial claiming, Fjords offers a focused contest of planning and tactical play amid a striking Viking-inspired setting.
