About this board game

Florence is a Euro-style area control game for 1–5 players, with sessions lasting about 80 minutes. Set during a grand Carnevale in the titular city, it challenges each family to raise its status while seeking precious face-time with the Medici figureheads Cosimo, Giovanni, and Contessina.

Across nine rounds, the regions worth controlling change as the Medici move around Florence to attend different functions. You dispatch family members throughout the city to pursue opportunities, but movement becomes increasingly difficult as the celebration grows and the streets fill with revelers.

• Brag about your achievements by meeting the conditions of brag cards.
• Spread spurious gossip and muscle through crowds to reach valuable encounters.
• Manage your family’s time carefully as the Carnevale becomes busier.

Time is Florence’s chief resource. Every action you ask a scion to complete must be considered against the changing conditions of the city. Getting your family to the front of each queue and becoming the most talked about can earn valuable points, helping elevate your family’s status above its rivals.

Each Medici is impressed by a specific approach, and their expectations become harder to satisfy as the night progresses. Successfully completing increasingly demanding objectives can therefore bring greater rewards, creating a shifting contest of timing, positioning, and influence.

Florence also includes a solo mode by Dávid Turczi, allowing the Carnevale’s struggle for status to be experienced alone.
