About this board game

Fossilis is a dinosaur excavation board game for 2 to 5 players, with games lasting about 60 minutes. Players become paleontologists competing to make the most valuable discoveries at an incredible dinosaur graveyard.

Each round gives players two actions to dig at the site or make an extraction. As layers of sand, clay, and stone are removed, trace fossils can be discovered and exchanged for useful tools, the plaster needed to extract bones, and discovery points.

The deeper players dig, the more precious dinosaur bones they may expose. With the right amount of plaster, a careful extraction can bring those bones to the surface. However, sometimes the best decision is to shift the earth and cover a find, slowing down the competition while preparing for a better opportunity.

• Excavate a 3D dig site with recessed pockets filled with dinosaur bones.
• Use chunky terrain tiles representing layers of sand, clay, and stone.

Bones are valuable on their own, but museums are especially interested in more complete specimens. Timing, strategy, and a little luck all matter as players decide when to dig, when to extract, and when to conceal a promising discovery.
