Hanabi: Black Powder Expansion

About this expansion

Hanabi: Black Powder is a Hanabi expansion for 2–5 players, with games lasting around 30 minutes. Released in 2020, it adds 10 cards and creates a special sixth Fireworks display for the cooperative card game.

The Black Powder cards introduce a distinct challenge to the familiar Hanabi format. They are never part of color clues, so players must communicate about them without including them in color-based information.

These cards also follow their own strict progression. They must be played from 5 to 1, and the set changes the usual distribution by including three 5s and one 1 instead.

Hanabi: Black Powder is compatible with the base R&R version of Hanabi. European versions of the game are not compatible with this expansion unless all cards are used with opaque sleeves.

Add this compact expansion when you want to extend Hanabi with another display and a special set of cards that changes both clue-giving and play order. Its unusual restrictions make the Black Powder display a clearly defined new objective within the game.
