HeroClix: The Lord of the Rings is a two-player miniatures skirmish game set in the J.R.R. Tolkien universe and based on the Mage Knight system.

Battles are played on a grid, so movement and positioning do not require rulers. The details for each miniature are printed directly on its base, keeping important information close at hand during play.

As characters take damage, their bases can be rotated. This typically weakens their characteristics, representing the effects of wounds or fatigue and giving the changing condition of each figure a visible presence on the table.

The game is available in two formats: a campaign-style box set and a traditional booster format. The campaign box includes everything needed to play, along with new epic-level rules and maps. The booster format provides figures in a format similar to previous HeroClix releases.
