About this board game
Inferno is a soul management board game for 1–4 players, with play lasting about 120 minutes. Set in the world of Dante Alighieri’s Divine Comedy, it combines the descent through Hell with the power games of Florence in the early 14th century.
Each player guides sinners toward their corresponding circles in Hell. Successfully delivering a soul earns Infamy Points, but every choice also contributes to the advancing story of Dante, who is searching for his beloved Beatrice with Virgil as his guide.
The central board is divided into two connected areas. One displays all nine circles of Hell alongside the soul registry, while the other represents Florence, where players can pursue influence and family ambitions.
- Inferno Phase: Advance a soul through Hell and gain Infamy Points when it reaches the correct circle.
- Florence Phase: Play an action at a city location or expose a sinner whose execution sends their soul toward Hell.
City actions include adopting a street urchin, building a new level of the family tower, and inviting an illustrious character home. Alternatively, exposing a sinner advances your position on the Hell registry, which records the souls you have supplied.
With each death, Dante moves closer to the gate leading to Purgatory. When he reaches it, the game ends, and the player with the most Infamy Points wins—though they are deemed untrustworthy.
Balancing soul delivery, exposure, and opportunities in Florence gives Inferno a distinctive setting where the pursuit of victory is inseparable from the grim progress of Dante’s descent.
