About this expansion
Potion-Making: Guild Of Alchemists is an expansion for 2–8 players, with a playing time of about 60 minutes, that adds a new deck, formulas, spells, and rules to Potion-Making: Practice.
At the beginning of the game, each player receives a Magnum Opus card showing a succession of formulas. Complete the list you have been given to create a Philosopher’s Stone, immediately ending the game and earning additional points.
Each turn is now divided into three phases. During them, you can draw cards from either deck and play them as elements or formulas, creating new opportunities to pursue your plans and develop inventive combinations.
- Elementary granum can be used as any element when creating a formula, then replace another element.
- Elixir of Omnitude can replace any simple, two-component elixir.
- Formulas completed with Elementary granum or Elixir of Omnitude do not provide half-point compensation if another player takes them.
The expansion introduces a choice between flexibility and protection: these versatile components can help complete formulas, but completed formulas using them do not award half the points in compensation when taken. The result is an expanded set of possibilities within the formula-building system.
A copy of the base game is required to play. Potion-Making: Practice and Guild Of Alchemists remain separate, while the later Potion-Making: University Course expansion can be combined with Guild Of Alchemists so that three separate decks are in play. Released in 2006, Potion-Making: Guild Of Alchemists gives alchemists a new objective and additional ways to build toward it.
