About this expansion
Potion-Making: University Course is an expansion for 2–8 players that adds an advanced program of magic and sorcery to a 60-minute game of potion crafting. It is designed for students who already know how to mix simple elixirs and make magic powders.
The expansion includes a separate deck of 63 cards featuring new ingredients, spells, creatures, and recipes. Rather than mixing it with the deck from Potion-Making: Practice, place the University Course deck beside the base-game deck and choose cards from either one during play.
Each turn now unfolds across three phases, opening the door to more sophisticated combinations. You might draw two cards and make a potion, or place a card on the table as an element and use that element for a new potion immediately.
- Lesser Talismans: Four talismans provide special bonuses, including the Lesser Talisman of Usefulness, which awards 1 point for any card played as an element, even when that element is already on the table.
- Scruple of Conscience: Pass this artifact to a player with more points than you. That player adds it to their hand and loses 5 points, but the card may eventually return to you.
- New spells: Haste lets you play two cards in a row, while Magic Vortex moves all ingredient cards from completed formulas onto the table of elements.
With Magic Vortex creating a huge choice of elements and the two decks offering new ways to build formulas, every turn can present fresh tactical possibilities. Potion-Making: University Course can also be combined with Potion-Making: Guild of Alchemists, putting three separate decks into play.
