About this expansion

Power Grid: The Stock Companies is a 2015 expansion for 2–6 players, with games lasting about 120 minutes. It introduces three new ways to play Power Grid or Power Grid Deluxe through stock ownership, company control, and competition in the electricity market.

The main game, The Stock Companies, gives players the role of shareholders. Your aim is to gain control over different stock companies and build the greatest wealth. The expansion also includes two variants that remain closer to the familiar Power Grid experience.

  • The Biggest Electricity Distributors: Invest as shareholders and pursue shares in the most successful companies—the ones supplying electricity to the most cities.
  • The Competition of the Private Companies: Control your own private stock company, establish it successfully on the electricity market, and sell shares to generate additional cash.

In the private-company variant, players can also buy shares in other players’ companies. This creates a way to benefit from opponents’ successes while developing your own company and competing for a stronger position in the market.

The expansion’s rules are based on Module 9, “Shares,” from 504. That module is combined with Power Grid to create three distinct options, with the main game focusing on the first option of the shares module and offering plenty of surprises.

If you own all Power Grid maps and the expansion New Power Plants, Power Grid: The Stock Companies provides 222 new possibilities to play Power Grid and Power Grid Deluxe. The two variants are designed for players who want to experiment with the game system while keeping a closer connection to the well-known Power Grid experience.
