About this expansion
Race for the Galaxy: Rebel vs Imperium is an expansion for 1–6 players, with games taking about 60 minutes. It deepens the growing conflict between Rebel and Imperium forces and adds new ways to shape the game.
The expansion introduces takeover rules, allowing players to conquer military worlds in other players’ tableaus. However, players who refrain from playing certain cards are immune to conquest, creating an important choice around how they develop their tableau.
A new Mix and Match Explore power lets a player combine explore cards with their hand before discarding. Three new start worlds bring the total to 12 and give players a choice between a military or non-military starting world. New goals also add further objectives to pursue.
- Take over military worlds in opponents’ tableaus
- Use the Mix and Match Explore power
- Choose from 12 start worlds, including military and non-military options
- Support drafting for 2–5 players
- Play the dedicated two-player Rebel vs Imperium scenario
When combined with The Gathering Storm, this expansion enables a six-player game. The Gathering Storm is optional but strongly recommended, and it adds solo play; together, the expansions broaden the player count and strategic possibilities.
Whether players focus on military strength, avoid the cards that expose them to conquest, or pursue the new goals, Race for the Galaxy: Rebel vs Imperium brings more interaction to the galaxy-building experience. It also expands the drafting variant beyond its original two- to three-player range, supporting two to five players.
