About this expansion
Race for the Galaxy: The Brink of War is the third expansion for Race for the Galaxy, supporting 1–6 players in games of about 60 minutes. It was released in 2010 and requires both The Gathering Storm and Rebel vs Imperium.
This expansion introduces galactic prestige, adding a new way to gain and spend value during the game. Each round, the player or players with the most prestige earn an additional victory point and may also receive a card.
Prestige remains important through the end of the game: every prestige is worth one victory point. Many of the new cards also let players spend prestige for victory points, cards, or other effects.
- 4 new start worlds
- 44 new game cards
- 5 new goals
- New solitaire game counters
- Drafting rules for six players
The Brink of War also adds a new once-per-game action. At the cost of one prestige, a player can use it to search the deck for a card that meets a specific stated requirement, or to enhance the bonus earned in a round.
With its new cards, goals, start worlds, prestige rules, and expanded player support, this expansion builds on the earlier Race for the Galaxy experience while requiring both previous expansions for play.
