About this board game

Rail Pass is a cooperative real-time game for 2–6 players that challenges a team to deliver as many goods as possible in ten minutes. Colored cubes represent goods, with each color showing the city where they must be delivered.

Before the clock starts, players scramble the goods and arrange them in rows across the top of the city boards. The player controlling a city can see every cube that needs to leave, but can load goods only from the left or right end of the row onto the trains.

Once the timer begins, everyone acts simultaneously and may repeat actions as often as needed. Cargo must first be loaded onto a short or long train piece resting in its player’s home-city train yard. Every train needs a crew peg to move, and a crew peg cannot travel beyond the adjacent city.

Longer journeys require careful coordination. Trains must stop so players can swap crew pegs or exchange cargo between trains, while everyone handles the pieces without dropping or spilling cubes when picking up or handing a train to another player. Tunnels and bridges can also be placed between cities to create additional obstacles.

  • 2–6 players work together in a ten-minute delivery challenge.
  • Colored cubes must reach their matching destination cities.
  • Train movement depends on crew pegs, cargo exchanges, and precise handling.
  • Optional tunnels and bridges add obstacles to the route.

When time runs out, calculate the score by multiplying the two lowest counts of cubes delivered to a city. Dropped cubes, goods delivered to the wrong city, and crew pegs that traveled beyond their adjacent cities reduce the score.

With six players, each person controls one of the six main cities, each producing goods for the other five locations. In scenarios with fewer players, a player may control multiple cities, giving Rail Pass a flexible setup for different group sizes.
