About this board game
Siege is a man-to-man small-scale combat game set in medieval Europe, perhaps around the 13th century, for 2–6 players with an approximately 180-minute playing time.
Play Siege as a complete game or use it as an expansion to Cry Havoc. The standalone game includes five scenarios and two maps: a camp and a castle. Its rules cover a range of siege warfare tactics, creating battles focused on attacking and defending fortified positions.
- Siege weapons for striking at defended positions
- Fire as a battlefield tactic
- Breaching walls
- Scaling ladders
The unit scale is one person to one counter. Each combatant is generally represented by multiple counters, or by both sides of a single counter, to show healthy and wounded states as well as mounted and unmounted status, including horses where applicable.
Every counter features a colored picture of the person depicted, along with their name and attack, defense, and movement values. The game includes both men and women among its combatants, giving its small-scale battles a distinctly personal focus.
Siege is well suited to play by email and can also be adapted for decent solitaire play. It integrates with Outremer, while the broader Cry Havoc series provides information about the game system, its history, and fan expansions. With its focused scenarios and detailed treatment of siege actions, Siege offers a dedicated medieval combat experience for players interested in castle warfare.
