About this expansion

Jugurtha: Guerrilla Warfare in Numidia is a two-player historical wargame with a playing time of 360 minutes, simulating two key battles of the Jugurthine War from 112–105 BC.

The game portrays Rome’s expansion into North Africa and the destruction of the once-proud kingdom of Numidia. It also presents a rare setting for ancient warfare games: guerrilla warfare, where on-field maneuver capabilities are central to the experience.

Numidia’s forces are distinctive, being almost entirely light in nature. Rather than relying on heaviness, they depend on speed and mobility, creating a sharp contrast in the way the opposing forces approach battle.

The game covers two historical engagements:

  • The Muthul River — 109 BC
  • Cirta — 106 BC

As an expansion module for the Great Battles of History series, Jugurtha is designed for use with Caesar: The Civil Wars. The game offers a focused opportunity to explore the Jugurthine War through maneuver, mobility, and the unusual challenge of guerrilla warfare in the ancient world.

SPQR is required to use historical units for The Muthul River scenario. Released in 1998, Jugurtha provides a substantial, two-player historical battle experience centered on Rome, Numidia, and two pivotal confrontations in North Africa.
