About this expansion

SPQR: Player’s Guide is a 1998 special C3i Magazine RBM publication for 2 players, featuring tactics, strategy, army analyses, game replays, and new scenarios.

Designed as a focused resource for SPQR players, this guide brings together strategic discussion and practical game material. Its articles examine tactics and strategy, while army analyses provide additional attention to the forces represented in the game.

The publication also includes game replays, offering complete examples of play for readers to study. Alongside these articles and replays are three new SPQR scenarios set during important historical conflicts:

  • The Battles of Lamia & Elis, 208 B.C.
  • The Second Battle of Beneventum, 214 B.C.
  • The Battle of Pydna, 168 B.C.

These scenarios expand the available SPQR material with new situations for two-player sessions. They are supported by eight commander counters included on the counter sheet provided in C3i #10.

The additional commanders are Pyrrhias, Hanno B., Gracchus, Cotys, Cycliadas, S. Galba, Mago S., and Perseus. Together, the scenarios and counters provide the specific components associated with the Player’s Guide scenarios.

Whether used for strategic reading, studying army analyses, reviewing game replays, or playing its new historical scenarios, SPQR: Player’s Guide gathers supplementary content in one dedicated publication. It is a compact addition for players seeking more SPQR tactics, strategy, and scenario material.
