Star Fleet Battles (Commander’s Edition) is a two-player board game released in 1983, with sessions listed at approximately 180 minutes. Known as Star Fleet Battles Volume I, this edition presents the third edition of the Star Fleet Battles series.

The boxed set includes counters, a map, basic Ship System Display (SSD) sheets, and a 96-page rulebook. The SSD sheets provide the foundation for recording ship systems, while the rulebook contains the rules and material needed for this edition.

A separate “Rulebook Only” version was also available for players who already owned the counters, map, and basic SSD sheets. Its rulebook was designed to be disassembled and placed in a blue three-ring binder, allowing new rules to be added and updates or expansions to replace existing pages.

It was later re-implemented by Star Fleet Battles Captain’s Edition, making this volume a notable stage in the game’s publication history.
