About this board game

Star Trek: Catan is a 3–4 player strategy board game with an approximately 75-minute play time, released in 2012. Players settle the Final Frontier by collecting resources, trading with one another, and expanding a network of Starships, Outposts, and Starbases.

Each player begins with two small Outposts positioned where three planets meet. Dice rolls determine which planets produce resources, including dilithium, tritanium, food, oxygen, and water. Players use these resources to connect regions of the galaxy with Starships, establish new Outposts, upgrade Outposts into Starbases, and acquire Development Cards.

• Establish Outposts and upgrade them to Starbases at new intersection points.
• Trade and spend five types of resources to expand your presence.
• Acquire Development Cards offering Victory Points or special abilities.

A roll of 7 brings a Klingon ship into play. It prevents resource production on one planet while taxing spacegoers who hold too many resources, adding an unpredictable threat to the resource economy.

This edition also includes Support Cards featuring Star Trek characters such as Kirk, Spock, McCoy, Sulu, Uhura, and Sarek. Their abilities can improve basic actions, enable a 2:1 trade of a resource of your choice for a turn, protect against discarding on a 7, or produce a resource when a roll would not normally do so.

Players receive a specific Support Card during setup based on turn order, with later players generally receiving more useful abilities. After using an ability for the first time, a player may trade the card for one of their choice or keep it for a second use, but a trade must happen immediately after use. In Star Trek: Catan, expansion, negotiation, and character abilities combine in a classic journey across the galaxy.
