About this expansion

The Automata Initiative: Liberation – Part 1 (fan expansion for Android: Netrunner) is a two-player expansion with an approximately 30-minute play time. Released in 2023, it forms the first half of the Liberation cycle and adds 65 new cards alongside new mechanics.

In this story, Brazil has long served as a haven for androids, extending human rights to both clones and bioroids within its borders. Now, proposed legislation in the Brazilian parliament threatens to strip bioroids of those rights and protections.

The so-called Automata Initiative would remove bioroids’ legal personhood from the constitution and establish their status as robots without soul or sentience. As the debate intensifies, the expansion places questions about identity, consciousness, and personhood at the heart of its setting.

Against this backdrop, corporate meddlers, a protesting populace, and sympathetic Runners are drawn into a growing conflict. The result is a narrative built around political tension and the fundamental question of what it means to be a person.
