About this board game

Tannhäuser is a 2007 board game for 2–10 players, with games lasting about 120 minutes, set during an alternate 1949 where a relentless war has raged for 35 years.

A secret archaeological dig has delivered an ancient relic to the Obscura Korps. The artifact may reveal the location of one of the four dark cardinal corners of reality, including a portal to hell buried beneath a fortress in central Europe.

The Reich’s 13th Occult Division is preparing to call upon the Cohorts of Chaos and force the world into eternal servitude. Behind enemy lines, the Union has only a small group of commandos left to stop this threat: the technologically advanced 42nd Alter-Marine Special Forces.

Rather than offering only a fixed selection of characters, Tannhäuser gives players extensive options for developing their heroes. Each player can shape a distinctive tactic and style of play while preparing their chosen personalities for battle.

  • 10 charismatic personalities to groom for combat
  • More than 70 illustrated token types
  • Tokens representing weapons, medals, ranks, powers, and equipment
  • A conflict between the Union and the occult forces of the Reich

Its setting combines experimental technology, military commandos, ancient relics, and supernatural danger in a struggle for humanity’s future. With its revised rulebook and emphasis on character customization, Tannhäuser invites players to build a force that reflects their preferred approach to the battle.
