About this expansion

Twilight Struggle: Turn Zero is a two-player mini-expansion for Twilight Struggle, with games lasting about 180 minutes. Released in 2015, it explores alternate starting situations for the United States and the Soviet Union.

What if Chiang’s forces had held on in southern China? What if Churchill’s Tories had won the 1945 election? What if the Western Allies had reached Berlin first? Turn Zero opens these and other possibilities, changing the opening setup and introducing new plays and dilemmas for both experienced players and newcomers.

Six large Crisis cards provide new setup instructions based on die rolls. Their scenarios include Yalta and Potsdam, the Chinese Civil War, the 1945 UK Election, Israel, VE Day, and VJ Day.

  • A Taiwan country counter, a Turn marker with a blue “US First” reverse, and a Defcon 1 Blocked counter
  • Blue counters for Suez Crisis, Socialist Governments, and -2 UK Influence effects
  • Ten Statecraft cards featuring Soviet figures and institutions such as Andropov, Khrushchev, Molotov, Beria, and the KGB, alongside US figures and institutions including Kennan, Acheson, Marshall, Dulles, and the OSS
  • Two modified Event cards: Europe Scoring (Allied Berlin) and Nationalist China 2 (US)

The included Card Description sheets explain the new cards and provide optional Space Race Track instructions on their reverse. The expansion also notes that these cards are included in Promo Deck #1 and Promo Deck #2.

With its alternate histories and revised opening conditions, Twilight Struggle: Turn Zero gives the familiar Cold War contest a range of different beginnings to explore.
