About this expansion
Ticket to Ride: Alvin & Dexter is a monster expansion for 2–5 players, designed for games lasting about 50 minutes. Released in 2011, it can be added to the various Ticket to Ride games released since 2004.
Alvin and Dexter bring a disruptive new presence to the map. During play, no player can build a route into or out of a city where either monster is currently nesting, making their locations important obstacles when planning connections.
The monsters also affect the final score. During endgame destination ticket scoring, any ticket showing a city occupied by Alvin or Dexter is worth only half its normal value. A monster’s position can therefore matter long after routes have been claimed.
- Blockaded cities: Routes cannot be built into or out of a city where a monster is nesting.
- Reduced ticket values: Destination tickets featuring an occupied city score half their normal value at the end of the game.
- Monster movement: Discard one or two wild locomotive cards to move a monster up to three or six cities away.
- Endgame bonus: The player who moves a monster more than any other player receives a bonus for being the monster minder.
When a critical destination is threatened, wild locomotive cards provide a way to relocate the problem. Decide whether to spend one card to move a monster up to three cities or two cards to move it up to six, then consider how that change affects everyone’s plans.
With route-building restrictions, altered destination scoring, and a competitive monster-minder reward, Ticket to Ride: Alvin & Dexter adds a fresh layer of tactical disruption to the Ticket to Ride series.
