About this expansion
Ticket to Ride Map Collection 4: Nederland is a 2–5 player train-route game played in about 60 minutes, featuring a Netherlands map for use with Ticket to Ride or Ticket to Ride: Europe.
The familiar gameplay remains at the heart of the experience: collect train cards, claim routes between pairs of cities, and complete destination tickets held in your hand. Nederland adds a new financial layer that makes every route claim matter.
Nearly every route on the board is a double-route, and both tracks remain available regardless of the number of players. Every route, whether single or double, also has a bridge toll costing 1–4 coins. The first track of a double route, or any single route, is paid to the bank; the second track is paid to the player who built the first.
- Begin with 30 coins and use them to pay bridge tolls.
- If you cannot pay, take a loan card to cover the fare.
- Each loan costs 5 points at the end of the game.
- Earn a coin-based bonus according to your holdings compared with the other players.
Coins are important at the finish as well as during construction. In a five-player game, the player with the most coins receives 55 bonus points, followed by bonuses of 35, 20, 10, and 0 points. Players who took a loan cannot receive this bonus.
Ticket to Ride Map Collection 4: Nederland offsets this pressure with highly valuable destination tickets: six are worth at least 29 points, while another seventeen are worth 17–26 points. Decide when to build, when to spend, and how much risk to accept as you connect cities across the Netherlands.
