About this expansion

Power Grid: Benelux/Central Europe is an expansion for 2–6 players with an approximate play time of 120 minutes, released in 2006. It adds two new maps for Power Grid: Benelux on one side and Central Europe on the other.

These maps do more than provide new locations. Each side introduces small rule changes designed to reflect the region’s power culture, creating different opportunities and restrictions during play.

  • Benelux: ecological power plants may be easier to acquire, oil is more available, and coal is less available.
  • Central Europe: coal is much more plentiful because of Poland’s large coal supplies, while political positions in some countries may limit access to nuclear power.

The result is a pair of regional settings that can influence which energy sources players pursue. In Benelux, support for ecological power and greater oil availability can open different possibilities, while reduced coal availability changes the balance of resources.

On the Central Europe map, abundant coal creates a contrasting environment. At the same time, potential limits on nuclear power add another regional consideration, making access to energy sources part of the challenge.

With its two-sided map design and tailored rule changes, Power Grid: Benelux/Central Europe offers more than a change of scenery. It brings new ways to play this strategic power game while staying focused on the distinctive energy conditions represented by each region.
