About this expansion
Power Grid: Brazil/Spain & Portugal is a 2009 expansion for Power Grid, offering two new maps for 2–6 players with a playing time of about 120 minutes.
One side of the board takes you to Brazil, where biogas is the preferred fuel for electricity production. When using the Brazil map, treat the game’s garbage power plants as biogas-fired power plants and its garbage resources as biogas tanks.
Biogas supplies are scarce, making the fight for resources especially intense. Players must stay focused as they contend with this distinctive energy landscape and its limited availability.
The reverse side presents Spain and Portugal, where power production develops in two opposing directions. Uranium becomes far more important than in other games, but its significance builds over time rather than appearing immediately.
- No new uranium enters the resource market during Step 1.
- Uranium supplies increase rapidly during Step 2.
- At the same time, three large wind-power plants come onto the market.
This deliberate clash between expanding uranium supplies and new wind-power plants gives the Spain and Portugal map its defining tension. The changing market conditions create a regional scenario that feels markedly different from the Brazil map.
Alongside the two maps, the expansion includes a Collector’s Box: a standard-sized Power Grid box with room for the other expansion maps released up to 2009. Power Grid: Brazil/Spain & Portugal therefore adds both contrasting geographic settings and a practical storage solution for collectors.
