About this expansion

Commands & Colors: Napoleonics Expansion #5 – Generals, Marshals & Tacticians is a two-player expansion with an approximately 180-minute play time, released in 2015.

This fifth expansion for the Commands & Colors: Napoleonics system includes 18 historical scenarios, from cavalry actions and Peninsula battles to major engagements around Leipzig. Several scenarios focus on the French army’s 1813 clashes with Russian, Austrian, and Prussian forces.

  • Historical scenarios including Sahagun, Sorauren, Brienne, Orthez, and Hougoumont
  • A new deck of Tactician cards that enhances the role of battlefield leaders
  • Updated Napoleonic Command cards and commander tactical ratings for all released scenarios

As in the wider system, Command cards drive movement while creating fog of war, and battle dice resolve combat quickly. Stylized battlefield maps highlight important terrain features and represent historical deployments at a flexible scale: an infantry unit may stand for a division in one battle, but a regiment or battalion in another.

The Tactician cards introduce new command possibilities without adding extra complexity or pages of rules. Alongside the updated Command cards and Generals, Marshals & Tacticians rules, they can also be used to refight previously released Napoleonic scenarios with enhanced leader-focused play.

Many scenarios require the base game or earlier expansions, including the Spanish, Russian, Austrian, and Prussian expansions. Together, these battles provide a broad tour of Napoleonic warfare and the differing strengths, limitations, and tactical challenges of its armies and terrain.
