About this expansion

Code of Bushido: ASL Module 8 is a Japanese module for the Advanced Squad Leader system, designed for 2 players and featuring approximately 120-minute tactical ground-combat games. Released in 1991, it introduces the Japanese order of battle and the distinctive challenges of the Pacific Theater.

The module includes the significant Japanese vehicles, guns, and troop types employed from the 1930s through 1945. Its eight scenarios range from the barren plains of Manchuria to the steaming jungles of New Guinea, placing Japanese forces against a variety of Allied nationalities.

Four new mapboards, numbered 34–37, are fully compatible with the other Squad Leader and ASL boards. Four sheets of overlays add further possibilities, including villages, streams, wooded hills, rice paddies, and other terrain configurations.

  • Chapter G: Japanese characteristics and Pacific Theater terrain rules
  • Chapter H: Japanese vehicle, gun, and troop information
  • Scenarios 59–66: eight scenarios including On the Kokoda Trail, Bungle in the Jungle, and The Bushmasters
  • Components: boards 34–37, PTO overlays, rulebook sections, scenario cards, and three counter sheets

Chapter G covers terrain such as jungle, bamboo, huts, swamp, and kunai grass, while the Japanese forces bring memorable battlefield characteristics to the system. Fanatical soldiers, banzai charges, and infantry tank hunters willing to destroy themselves alongside an enemy AFV are among the module’s defining elements.

Code of Bushido: ASL Module 8 requires ASL, Beyond Valor, Yanks, and West of Alamein to play.
