Darwin’s Journey: Animal Companion is a 2023 mini-expansion for 1–4 players, associated with a 120-minute game experience. It adds six Animal Companion cards that provide helpful benefits during setup and a one-time use action during the game.

Each Animal Companion card can be used to support players as they begin the game. The animals are designed to offer assistance without requiring every player to use them in the same way.

• Each card provides an initial benefit during setup.
• Each card also offers a one-time use action during the game.
• Cards can be given to all players or reserved for newer players.

This flexibility makes the mini-expansion suitable for groups with different levels of experience. Players can include Animal Companion cards for everyone, or give them specifically to newer players who want additional assistance while competing against more experienced opponents.

Darwin’s Journey: Animal Companion is included inside the Darwin’s Journey: Collector’s Edition. It was also available as a Kickstarter add-on for backers supporting the base-game-only pledge level.

With its compact set of six cards and straightforward role during setup and play, this mini-expansion adds a focused way to provide extra assistance. Whether distributed across the table or reserved for newer participants, the Animal Companions offer each selected player an initial benefit and a single additional action to use during the game.
