About this expansion

Kingdom Builder: Caves is a promotional board game item for 2–4 players, with a playing time of approximately 45 minutes. Released by Queen Games for Spiel 2012, it consists of four cave tiles and accompanying rules.

The cave tiles introduce a new feature to the board while also affecting how settlements can move. Each cave counts as a mountain hex, making its placement an important part of setting up the game.

  • Four cave tiles
  • Rules for placing the caves
  • A once-per-turn settlement movement option

During setup, place one cave tile in each quadrant on any mountain hex that is not within two hexes of a location, castle, or nomad hex. This gives every quadrant a cave while preserving the stated placement restrictions.

Once every turn, before or after the mandatory action, a player may move one of their settlements adjacent to a cave. That settlement can be moved to any empty and suitable hex adjacent to any cave on the board, including the same cave.

This movement rule connects the caves across the board and provides a distinct additional option during a turn. Because the destination may be adjacent to any cave, players can use the rule to relocate a settlement around the available cave network, provided the destination is empty and suitable.

Kingdom Builder: Caves is a compact promotional addition centered on cave placement and flexible settlement movement. Its four tiles and concise rules introduce the feature without adding components beyond the caves themselves and the rules supplied with this Spiel 2012 item.
