About this expansion

ASL: Journal – Issue Seven is a 48-page magazine for two players dedicated to the Advanced Squad Leader tactical board wargame. It includes 12 scenarios and an 8×22-inch geomorphic mapboard known as board v.

Board v uses the lightweight mounted map style featured in the ASL Starter Kits, replacing the hardback-mounted style of the original Squad Leader maps. The map is fully compatible with Advanced Squad Leader and is introduced in the scenario Marders not Martyrs.

The issue combines historical articles, scenario reviews, and additional ASL-focused features. Topics include the Croatian Parachute Battalion, the British in World War II, commissars, hidden units, and feline off-board artillery.

  • 12 scenarios spanning 1941 to 1945
  • Settings in Hungary, Russia, Croatia, East Prussia, and Slovenia
  • Scenario lengths ranging from 4.5 to 8 turns
  • A new 8×22-inch geomorphic mapboard

The scenarios include Extracurricular Activities, The Yelnya Bridge, Lenin’s Sons, Flanking Flamethrowers, Borodino Train Station, and Marders not Martyrs. The issue also features Operations Schwartz, Danica Air, Break for Hungary, Prelude to Spring, Prussia in Flames, and Prelude to Dying.

With its mixture of articles, reviews, scenarios, and a new map, ASL: Journal – Issue Seven offers a focused collection for Advanced Squad Leader players and showcases a map style later used in ASL Starter Kit games.
