About this expansion

ASL: Journal – Issue Ten is a 2012 ASL magazine and scenario collection for 2–4 players, with an approximately 180-minute play time. It combines a 48-page glossy magazine with 16 separate scenarios printed on cardstock.

This issue introduces six brand-new articles covering a broad range of ASL topics. Explore a detailed scenario replay of Festung Budapest scenario FB17, review date-dependent rules in table format, and find guidance intended to ease the experience of newer players.

  • The Beginner Blues, focused on easing newbie pain
  • Close Combat Simulator, offering guidance for a better approach to close combat
  • Son of Squad Bleeder, a trio of DYO-esque scenarios
  • Bullet In The Head, examining low-odds firepower attacks and Sniper tactics

The issue also includes the Debriefing errata update, the Umpires’ View editorial, Frequently Asked Questions for Festung Budapest, and the Festung Budapest Player Aid Chart. Two cardstock player aids are included alongside the scenario cards.

The 16 scenarios include Into The Grinding Mill, Last Minute War, The Sangshak Redemption, Dawn’s Early Light, Mageret Mixer, Urban Nightmare, and Red Banner Days, among others. Their listed matchups include Chinese versus Japanese, Americans versus Germans, Germans versus Russians, and several other forces across dates from 1937 to 1945.

ASL: Journal – Issue Ten uses a new format: the scenarios are no longer bound into the magazine. The cardstock inserts can be played without photocopying or removing pages, while the 80-pound gloss paper improves the brightness and clarity of the magazine’s articles.
