About this expansion

Carcassonne: The Signposts is a 12-tile expansion for the Carcassonne base game, designed for 2–5 players with a play time of 45 minutes. It adds directional signposts to roads, giving completed and unfinished roads an additional scoring element.

Each tile features one or more road segments and two of three possible signposts: a left turn, a right turn, or a straight path. Mix the tiles with the base game, then build roads as usual while watching how the directions around each signpost develop.

When a road containing a signpost is scored, examine the next tile adjacent to that signpost. If the road segment on that tile matches the signpost’s direction, the signpost scores. A right-turn signpost, for example, scores when the adjacent tile features a right turn, regardless of any other road segments on that tile.

  • Score one signpost type: each such signpost is worth 1 point.
  • Score two signpost types: each of those signposts is worth 2 points.
  • Score all three signpost types: each is worth 3 points.

The expansion also rewards careful attention to roads that remain unfinished. At the end of the game, every signpost pointing in the correct direction on an unfinished road is worth 1 point.

With its compact set of 12 tiles, Carcassonne: The Signposts focuses on directional matching and flexible road scoring. Each signpost offers another detail to consider when placing tiles and evaluating the roads in play.
