About this expansion

Dominations: Provinces is an expansion for 2–4 players that adds a more aggressive strategic layer to the civilization-building game, with sessions lasting about 120 minutes. Released in 2019, it introduces new territories that can be conquered and assimilated into your growing civilization.

At the beginning of each Age, every player draws a Province card and takes its matching Province tile. During the Growth phase, the tile is placed alongside a regular domino, meaning each player plays six dominoes instead of five. Province tiles feature unique illustrations and abilities, including resources and other effects similar to Monument tiles.

Placing a Province does not make it yours. Once on the board, any player may attempt to conquer it by spending the new Conquest resource. Conquest cards are gained through the unique Mastery card Conscription, a value-3 card that can be purchased with any type of resource and converts Knowledge into randomly drawn Conquest cards.

  • New Province, Mastery, Conquest, Rebellion, and Objectives cards
  • Random Conquest cards worth 1–5 points, with some offering special powers or bonuses
  • Random Rebellion cards that increase a Province’s cost and may have beneficial or harmful effects
  • Province bonuses, End of Age effects, and the possibility of destroyed Cities or lost resources

To conquer a Province, players must pay its stated Conquest value plus the value of the required Rebellion cards. Unconquered Provinces trigger their End of Age effects, which may grant resources or unleash barbarian invaders against neighbouring Cities.

With its mix of uncertain costs, tempting rewards, and direct disruption, Dominations: Provinces creates tense decisions every Age. Conquer territories for their benefits, or place dangerous Provinces near opponents and force them to respond.
