Age of Steam Expansion: The Moon is a fan-made expansion for 3–6 players, with an approximately 120-minute playing time, that presents an extremely challenging railway map set on the Moon.

This lunar setting changes the character of the game through two distinctive rules. Half of the cities are always black, while track can be built off one side of the board only to appear on the opposite side. Together, these features create an unusual map in which planning your routes requires careful attention to both the city layout and the board’s connected edges.

The Moon is designed as a demanding addition to Age of Steam rather than a standalone game. Its unusual geography and city restrictions make it a notable choice for players looking for a more difficult map experience.

First released in 2005, the expansion appeared in a paper-only edition of 180 copies for Essen 2005. It was packaged with Age of Steam Expansion: Reunion Island in a special box.

In 2007, the map was reprinted on the reverse side of Age of Steam Expansion: Mars – Global Surveyor, in an edition of 100 copies. It was reprinted again in 2011 as part of Age of Steam Expansion: Moon and Berlin Wall. In 2014, Age of Steam Expansion: The Moon received another 100-copy edition with a steampunk look and a small satellite expansion that provides new cubes for players to move.
