About this expansion

Agricola: X-Deck is a not-entirely-serious expansion for Agricola for 1–5 players, with a playing time of about 120 minutes. Released in 2008, it adds an alien encounter deck to the game.

The X Deck contains 24 cards divided among five types. Its playful science-fiction theme is supported by artwork from Klemens Franz, the same artist who illustrated Agricola.

  • Alien Actions
  • Merchants from Outer Space
  • Alien Artifacts
  • Alien Events
  • Alien Occupations

The aliens arrive when players create a Quarry. This happens when the 1 Stone card from Stage II, covering Rounds 5–7, is revealed. Whenever a player takes that action, they also draw the top card from the Alien Encounter Deck, while still taking any Stone placed on the space.

There is one important limitation: the 1 Stone card that appears during Stage IV, in Rounds 10–11, does not trigger an alien encounter. This timing rule makes the Stage II Quarry action the specific point at which the X Deck enters play.

The German edition was included as a standalone add-on deck in the October 15, 2008, issue of Spielbox magazine. An English edition of Agricola: X-Deck has been available directly from Lookout Games through a PayPal fundraiser, and it is also available through Agricola: The Goodies Expansion.
