About this board game

Conan is a scenario-based, semi-cooperative asymmetric miniatures board game for 2–5 players, with games lasting about 90 minutes. Based purely on Robert E. Howard’s novels and short stories, it pits Conan and his companions against an opposing player who controls the Overlord’s forces.

Each game takes place on a map and follows a specific scenario with its own objectives. The base box includes four maps and nine scenarios, which can be played individually or linked into a campaign. Heroes may include Conan, Shevatas the thief, Hadrathus the priest and sorcerer, Belit the pirate queen, and Valeria the warrior.

At the start of a scenario, the hero players choose a team of Conan and two or three companions. The Overlord then gathers the miniatures, tokens, and cards required for the chosen scenario, including forces such as picts, skeleton warriors, a Necromancer, and monsters.

  • Hero actions: Spend energy gems to move, fight in melee or at a distance, defend, pick locks, reroll, and perform other actions.
  • Resting: Move gems from the spent pool back to the available pool to recover energy.
  • Overlord control: Activate units using a board with eight slidable tiles and an energy-gem pool.
  • Varied objectives: Heroes may need to accomplish a goal, while some scenarios task the Overlord with achieving an objective of their own.

With limited turns—ten in one example—every activation matters. The asymmetric systems give both sides distinct ways to manage energy, command units, and pursue victory, making Conan a focused adventure game built around replayable scenarios.
