Descent: Journeys in the Dark (Second Edition) – Road to Legend is a cooperative campaign experience for 1–4 hero players, guided by a companion app instead of an overlord player.

Players work together to overcome the challenges presented by the app, undertaking quests in dark and perilous locales. Along the way, heroes explore, battle monsters, and gain riches as they progress through a series of story quests.

Road to Legend uses many of the core rules from Descent: Journeys in the Dark Second Edition, including movement, actions, combat, and other tactical gameplay. Familiarity with the core game rules is therefore necessary before beginning a Road to Legend campaign.

• Fully cooperative play: Every player takes the hero side, and the group wins or loses quests and the campaign together.
• App-driven setup: The companion app determines the rules, tiles, tokens, and monsters used in each quest.
• Exploration: Maps are not fully revealed at the start. Exploring and opening doors reveals additional quest elements.
• Alternating activations: Hero turns and monster activations alternate, while the app determines the actions performed by activating monsters.

Unlike the core game, Road to Legend has no basic game or Epic Play variant. It is played exclusively as part of a campaign, creating a connected sequence of story quests shaped by exploration and cooperative decisions.
