K2: Broad Peak

About this expansion

K2: Broad Peak is a mountain-climbing expansion for 1–5 players, with games lasting about 60 minutes. It requires a copy of K2 and includes a double-sided game board, tokens, and new rules.

The board depicts Broad Peak, the twelfth-highest mountain in the world. Once known as “K3,” the mountain is now typically called Broad Peak because of the length of its summit.

Based on the historical achievements of Polish mountaineers on Broad Peak in 1984, the expansion offers two distinct challenges. Each challenge has its own board and rule changes, creating a different experience from the other.

• Race to the Top: a quick, thrilling challenge that lasts three fewer days than a normal game. Players have no tents, the deck contains fewer acclimatization cards, and the board has fewer places to climb.
• Traverse of Broad Peaks: a more strategic challenge that is slightly longer than the base game. The board features three peaks, with additional victory points available for traversing the entire mountain and reaching the top of each peak.

In the traverse challenge, reaching all three summits is especially difficult because each mountaineer has only one tent. The two scenarios offer contrasting ways to experience the Broad Peak setting: a shorter race with limited options, or a longer strategic attempt to cross the mountain and conquer its three tops.

For fans of the original game, K2: Broad Peak adds new boards and rules while preserving the mountain-climbing focus of the series.
