K2: Lhotse

About this expansion

K2: Lhotse is an expansion for 1–5 players that takes about 60 minutes, challenging you to lead a team of two climbers as close as possible to Lhotse’s summit.

Lhotse means “the southern peak” in Tibetan, and its southern wall rises more than 3,000 meters in a steep and dangerous climb. This expansion includes an alternative, two-sided board, new weather tiles, and a completely new mechanic: fixed rope tokens that let players create their own routes.

Each side of the board presents a different scenario and challenge. On the southern-wall scenario, the mountain is divided by height and into three vertical sectors: eastern, central, and western. Weather affects each sector differently, making route planning and timing essential.

• Use fixed ropes to establish new routes between known paths.
• Find more efficient ways to escape bad weather or deadly landslides.
• Manage a demanding climb against time and changing conditions.

The second scenario begins from the safer southern pass, also the easiest route to Mount Everest, and focuses on a fast race to the top. Players start with fewer cards after discarding three, but the quality of those discarded cards determines how many extra victory points they receive at the end.

Time is especially important in this scenario, since the climb lasts only 15 days. Whether navigating the exposed southern wall or hurrying up the pass, K2: Lhotse adds new route-building decisions and fresh weather challenges to the mountain-climbing experience.
