About this expansion

This War of Mine: Heart of the City is a 2017 board game addition for 1–6 players, with a play time of 120 minutes. It introduces a new location within the destroyed city: a huge, ruined monument known as the heart of the city.

After scavenging, players decide whether to visit the city center as an additional destination or avoid its dangers. The choice is theirs, but the outcome is uncertain. The area can bring either positive or negative experiences, and its consequences are not known until the decision to enter is made.

Heart of the City is more than a one-time exploration. It is a region where some of the game’s most intense events can unfold, supported by special stories designed to make visits there memorable. The system also includes an internal balancing mechanic, preventing results from becoming a simple festival of randomness.

  • An 84mm miniature representing the destroyed city’s monumental heart
  • 50 additional stories focused on the new region
  • Five cards supporting the addition
  • A risky optional visit after scavenging, with unknown consequences

Every visit to the center of the city presents a meaningful risk-and-reward decision. Players may discover something positive, face something negative, or encounter one of the region’s specially designed stories. With its distinctive miniature and substantial story content, This War of Mine: Heart of the City expands the ruined setting with an unpredictable location at its symbolic center.
