About this board game

Virus is a real-time lab crawler for 1–6 players, with games lasting about 120 minutes. Players form an infiltration team entering a secret military laboratory to find the antidote to Virus Q, a terrifying infection spreading through the world.

Inside the lab, infected people and animals have become violent, almost unstoppable creatures. The team must collect scattered fragments of information, search for the zero patient and discover where the outbreak began, while avoiding or fighting the monsters that now inhabit the facility.

The laboratory changes through a semi-automatic map-generation system driven by player actions. Monster movement and placement are also shaped by what the players do, creating an unpredictable environment in which every decision can affect what happens next.

  • Tactical combat: Combine available movement with shooting power to plan your actions.
  • Dexterity and chance: Fighting includes dexterity elements and uses rolling cubes to determine successes.
  • Real-time play: The action unfolds under time pressure rather than waiting for a leisurely pace.
  • Flexible competition: Play cooperatively, semi-cooperatively, or competitively.

Not everyone necessarily wants the antidote found. Some seek to exploit the chaos, control the monsters and establish a new form of government, while a cure would destroy their plans. The optional infiltrator role adds another layer of uncertainty and makes the mission even more unpredictable.

With its shifting laboratory, dangerous creatures and multiple ways to play, Virus challenges players to balance exploration, combat and trust as they race to return hope to a dying humanity.
