Zooloretto: The Gorilla

About this expansion

Zooloretto: The Gorilla is a small Zooloretto expansion for 2–5 players, with play taking about 45 minutes. Given away by Abacus at Spiel 2008 in Essen, it adds a gorilla tile and a special enclosure to the game.

Play with the normal Zooloretto rules, except for one key condition: the first player to fill their six-space enclosure takes the gorilla enclosure from the middle of the table. This creates a race to complete the enclosure before anyone else.

The owner of the gorilla enclosure may use its ability once during the game. Instead of placing a drawn tile on a delivery truck, that player may place it directly into their zoo. The tile may even be a coin tile.

• One gorilla tile
• A gorilla enclosure claimed by the first player to fill a six-space enclosure
• One direct-to-zoo tile placement during the game
• A spent coin used to mark the ability after it is used

After the ability is used, place the spent coin on the gorilla enclosure. It remains there until the end of the game and does not count during final scoring.

The supplied Rio Grande information also describes additional Gorilla materials for Zooloretto, including a savings book for each player and job boards. Savings books can earn interest during the game and break ties at the end, while job boards reward players for collecting the animals shown on them.

For Aquaretto, the same information lists three co-worker tiles—the Research Station, Training Area, and Technical Area—as well as trains that can be collected for additional points at game end. Together, these listed additions make Zooloretto: The Gorilla a compact extra layer for the Zooloretto family.
