About this expansion

Paratrooper: ASL Module 2 is a two-player Advanced Squad Leader module for games lasting about 120 minutes. Released in 1986, it is designed as an introduction for experienced Squad Leader players considering the move to ASL.

Paratrooper is not a complete game. The ASL rules and Squad Leader boards 1–4 are required to play all eight included scenarios. All other necessary components are enclosed, making the module a focused way to sample the ASL system without purchasing the full Russian/German order of battle found in Beyond Valor.

Set against the special circumstances of the airborne invasion of Normandy, the scenarios emphasize infantry encounters. Vehicles, ordnance, off-board artillery, and more detailed rules are used little or not at all, supporting the module’s introductory purpose while keeping its subject focused.

  • Eight scenarios, numbered 11 through 18
  • Mapboard 24, featuring a village in a valley
  • Two countersheets
  • Scenario titles including Defiance on Hill 30, Le Manoir, Trapped!, and The Roadblock

The first Avalon Hill edition included mapboard 24 and ASL first-edition Chapter K, the “Training Manual.” The second edition from Multi-Man Publishing adds mapboards 2 and 4 from the original Squad Leader, while omitting Chapter K because it appears in the second-edition ASL rulebook.

With its limited scope and infantry-centered scenarios, Paratrooper offers a contained entry point into the broader ASL series while also providing a counters supplement for players who later expand their collection with Beyond Valor.
