About this expansion

Arkham Horror: The Dunwich Horror (Herald) is an official Herald for Arkham Horror, supporting games for 1–8 players with an approximately 180-minute play time. It is used with the Herald/Guardian mechanic and requires the Dunwich board.

When the Dunwich Horror serves as the Herald, place one Dunwich Horror token on the Dunwich Horror track at the start of the game. Its presence makes the track more threatening from the outset and introduces additional pressure as the terror level rises.

  • Unnatural Growth: Add another token to the track when the terror level reaches 3, 6, and 9, in addition to the normal conditions for adding tokens.
  • Yog-Sothoth’s Child: The Dunwich Horror is treated as having both circle and moon dimensional symbols for movement only. This symbol cannot banish it or pull it through a gate.
  • Father’s Name: When the Dunwich Horror moves, it adds a doom token on a 3–6 instead of a 4–6.

The Herald also creates a special interaction with Yog-Sothoth. If Yog-Sothoth is the Ancient One and awakens while the Dunwich Horror is on the board, Yog-Sothoth’s combat modifier increases by 3, becoming -8, and five extra doom tokens are placed on his doom track, for a total of 17.

Originally published by Fantasy Flight Games on its website, this official Herald was later included in the Arkham Horror: Miskatonic Horror Expansion. Arkham Horror: The Dunwich Horror (Herald) is a focused rules addition built around escalating terror, movement, doom, and the connection between the Dunwich Horror and Yog-Sothoth.
