About this expansion

Bohnanza: Bohnaparte & High Bohn is a combined expansion set for 3–7 players, with games lasting around 90 minutes. Released in 2015, it brings together two Bohnanza expansions that were previously available separately.

In Bohnaparte, players compete to conquer the Bohnreich, a territory created with new cards from the expansion. Each player receives counters in their own color, while play broadly follows normal Bohnanza with one major change: earned bean coins are not saved, but spent to finance conquests across the Bohnreich.

Conquests are resolved using the numbers on bean cards, giving formerly weaker bean types a new strategic role. By the end of the game, only the amount of the Bohnreich under each player’s control matters. Its blend of bean trading and territorial competition is summed up by designer Hanno Girke as “Bohnanza meets Risk.”

High Bohn Plus adds new variants and two new bean types: the Cognac bean and the Field bean. With High Bohn, players can spend their thalers on buildings in Virginia City, whose attributes create new tactical possibilities for pursuing victory.

  • Field Beans: For 4–5 players, these can be harvested for a third field.
  • Order Cards: For 3–7 players, they provide extra thalers when players complete very specific orders.
  • Virginia City buildings: Their attributes introduce additional tactical choices.

With territorial conquest, building effects, additional bean types, and demanding orders, Bohnanza: Bohnaparte & High Bohn offers several new ways to approach the familiar bean-growing game.
