About this expansion

ASL Action Pack #15: Swedish Volunteers is a 2020 Advanced Squad Leader scenario pack for 2 players, featuring 16 historical scenarios about Swedish volunteers in combat during World War II.

Although Sweden was technically neutral, its Frivilligkåren, or Volunteer Corps, supported the wider defense of its Nordic neighbors. The scenarios cover Swedish actions during the Winter War in Finland, the German invasion of Norway during Operation WESERÜBUNG, and battles against Soviet forces during the Continuation War.

The pack includes all 14 scenarios from the original Swedish Volunteers release, updated with official ASL layout and terminology. Some scenarios also receive balance updates, while two additional scenarios expand the collection with one previously published by Friendly Fire and one brand-new scenario.

  • 16 ASL scenarios set in Finland, Norway, and Russia between 1940 and 1944
  • 120 half-inch counters and eight five-eighths-inch counters
  • New Swedish personnel, support weapons, guns, and concealment counters in a unique color
  • Six pages of Chapter Z rules, including Scenario Special Rules, designers’ notes, and historical background

Scenario lengths range from 4.5 to 8 turns, offering a varied set of historical engagements. The battle settings include Märkäjärvi, Kongsvinger, Selbu, Os, Stien, Jandeba, Shemenski, and Tali, among others.

Designed for the ASL aficionado, Swedish Volunteers is not a complete game. It assumes ownership of the core Advanced Squad Leader game system and provides a focused collection of scenarios and national-specific counters for exploring the wartime service of Swedish volunteers.
