About this expansion

Deep Madness: The Faces of the Sphere is a 2019 expansion for Deep Madness, listed for 1–6 players. It connects Deep Madness with its upcoming prequel, Dawn of Madness, adding figures that can be used in both games.

When someone looks into the Sphere or becomes corrupted by its power, the abyss within seems to stare back. It reveals deepest fears, darkest secrets, and potential realities—and those visions begin to take form.

The Sphere contains worlds, galaxies, and universes, while also serving as a key to other dimensions. From one of those dimensions come the Sphere Faces, beings described as reflections of the investigators’ faces.

Sphere Faces are not investigators, and they do not necessarily exist to kill investigators or simply make the game harder. Instead, they move across the board and sow chaos wherever they go.

  • Sphere Faces do not activate during the standard Activation Phase.
  • A dedicated Sphere Phase brings them into play.
  • During this phase, Sphere Face creatures roam around the board.
  • New Sphere Faces spawn in various devoured rooms.

This distinct phase gives the expansion its own rhythm, as the mysterious creatures follow their separate movement and spawning rules. Their presence introduces an unsettling reflection of the investigators and expands the strange mythology surrounding the Sphere.

Designed as an intersection between two related games, Deep Madness: The Faces of the Sphere adds a new type of creature and a new phase to Deep Madness while also providing figures compatible with Dawn of Madness.
