About this expansion

Deep Madness: The Oracle’s Betrayal is a 2018 expansion for 1–6 players with an approximate play time of 120 minutes. It introduces new investigators, enemies, mechanics, and scenarios to the descent into the horrors of Kadath’s mining facility.

When the investigators first came to Kadath, they received a vision of a man who intended to help them defeat the terrors within the facility. In The Oracle’s Betrayal, that apparent ally becomes one of their greatest threats, turning the promise of assistance into a dangerous confrontation.

The expansion adds three investigators: the morally driven detective John Murdock, the morally depraved psychologist Dr. Clarence Branom, and Hannah. It also introduces several new adversaries and other dangerous beings, each tied to the expansion’s distinctive scenarios.

  • Victims: lost, fractured souls who only want to survive—and who the investigators begin as in Chapter One.
  • Collectors: monstrous servants in diving helmets who harvest fragments of souls and return them to their abominable master.
  • Dissected: creatures whose horrific appearance may not fully reveal whether they are evil.
  • Dr. William West: the horrific mastermind behind the betrayal.

The fusion deck adds a new mechanic built around integrating two investigators together. The expansion also features William’s will, trial, and puppet cards, supporting scenarios with a particularly dangerous objective.

The puppet must kill the other investigators, while the investigators cannot win the scenario unless they kill the puppet. With its unusual scenario rules and morally complex cast, Deep Madness: The Oracle’s Betrayal expands the game with a focused story of survival, manipulation, and betrayal.
