About this expansion

Ghost Stories: Chuck No-Rice is a 2009 promo card for Ghost Stories, playable in games for 1–4 players with an approximately 60-minute play time.

Originally released as a PDF download from the Repos Productions website as an April Fool joke, the card was later handed out at GenCon 2009 at the Asmodee booth. It presents Chuck as a 5-red tao Wu Feng incarnation.

Chuck brings a distinctive set of effects into play. When he comes into play, he kills adjacent ghosts, immediately affecting the ghosts positioned next to him.

  • Entry effect: Kills adjacent ghosts when Chuck comes into play.
  • Activation effect: Removes one Qi from each monk in the column in front of him.
  • Reward: Provides no reward other than his signature.

Each activation therefore puts pressure on the monks in the column before Chuck, while his arrival deals with adjacent ghosts. His lack of a reward makes the encounter stand apart from an ordinary source of benefits.

As a promotional addition, Ghost Stories: Chuck No-Rice is notable for combining a playful April Fool origin with a clearly defined in-game threat. The card’s effects focus on positioning, ghost removal, and the continuing loss of Qi, giving Chuck a memorable presence within the Ghost Stories setting.
