About this expansion

Valeria: Card Kingdoms – Darksworn is a cooperative game for 2–5 players, with sessions lasting about 120 minutes. Across six book-decks, players explore the territory west of Valeria and face a darkness that cannot go unchecked.

Each book unfolds another part of a story filled with wonder, sacrifice, and adventure. New rules and cards appear throughout the saga: some affect only the current book, while others persist as the story develops, creating an experience with elements reminiscent of a legacy game.

To advance, the group must complete the tasks presented in each book. At the same time, players build effective tableaus of citizens, seek useful boons, and defend the kingdom from powerful monsters. The challenge lies in balancing progress with the protection of the decreasing center stacks of citizens, which represent the health of the kingdom.

• Six story-driven book-decks introduce new rules, tasks, cards, and challenges.
• Powerful monsters attack from the monster row and can capture citizens.
• Walls provide additional protection, but monsters that breach them threaten the citizen stacks.
• The Blessings Board offers special powers, can free captured citizens, and may rebuild fallen walls.

The play area resembles a standard game of Valeria: Card Kingdoms, with important additions. A story board above the monster row displays the current book’s story, challenges, and rules, while captured citizens languish in a dark oubliette. At the bottom, devotion to the radiance of Aquila can provide vital assistance.

In Darksworn, every defense matters. If any monster reaches the Blessings Board, all is lost.
