About this expansion

Zooloretto: Catta is a special expansion tile for 2–5 players, designed for games lasting about 45 minutes. It was released in 2011 as a convention item from Spiel 2011 in Essen.

The Catta enclosure is awarded to the first player to fill their 6-space enclosure. When claimed, it receives 3 coins from the bank, creating a limited resource that can be used during the rest of the game.

  • The first player to fill a 6-space enclosure receives the Catta enclosure.
  • Three coins are placed on the enclosure from the bank.
  • On its owner’s turn, the owner may skip that turn by paying 1 coin from the enclosure to the bank.
  • If the enclosure has no coins remaining, its owner cannot skip a turn.
  • If at least 1 coin remains on the enclosure at the end of the game, its owner receives 1 additional scoring point.

Using the Catta enclosure involves choosing when to spend its coins and when to preserve them. Spending a coin allows the owner to skip a turn, while keeping at least one coin until the game ends provides an additional scoring point.

Because the tile goes to the first player who fills the required enclosure, reaching that milestone is central to claiming it. Once awarded, the Catta enclosure adds a compact decision involving turn skipping, coin management, and end-game scoring.

Zooloretto: Catta offers a focused addition to the game through one special tile and a clearly defined coin supply. Its rules create a direct choice between using coins during play and retaining one for a final bonus.
